SHORT COMMUNICATION
WORKDHOP ON RICE TESTING IN 2020 DRY SEASON
In February 12th 2020, HATRI held a workshop on rice assessment due to “the nursery in 2020 Dry season”. There are 52 agricultural officers from Mekong Delta participated the workshop.
The objectives: (1) to assess and select promising rice genotypes with high yielding, toleance to salinity, drought stress, high grain quality, including glutinous rice nuresy; (2) to extend the cooperation with local GOV how to develop the elite lines.
The key features of promising rice genotypes were introduced by HATRI. The workshop was chaired by Prof. Nguyen Thi Lang with the presence by agric officers from Dept. of Agriculture and Rural Development Sở Nông Nghiệp, Dept. of od Science and Technology in Mekong Region, especially Dr Cho Young Chon, from Korea to pay a visit of Korean Rice Nursery here.

New promising rice HYVs were discussed via 10 comments and questions by representatives from An Giang, Cần Thơ, Vĩnh Long, Bạc Liêu, Bến Tre, Sóc Trăng. They paid more attentions to grain shape, panicle size and plant structure, especially growth duration how to well adapt salt stress areas in Mekong Delta. Short growth duration must be considered first. HATRI 2000, HATRI 174, and HATRI 194 are well developed in Ben Tre under field salt stress of 3 ppt.
