WORKSHOP RESULTS SALT-RESISTANT RICE VARIETIES AT TRA VINH

Scientific Conference to highlight the achievements of rice varieties developed from the Hight Agricultural technology Research Institute of Mekong delta (HATRI), as well as new products and technologies from the subject of the Southwest are expected to help achieve progress in agricultural fields of rice crops. The overall goal of the workshop is to increase the adaptive capacity of paddy production in the Mekong Delta region. The workshop aims to develop expertise on non-biological effects on rice plants. MEKONG DELTA is Vietnam's main rice producing granary areas, accounting for half its annual rice production of the country. More than 30 years through Vietnam farmers have adjusted to changing environmental conditions by modifying and diversification of production systems and water management for rice production. However, significant constraints limit the ability of farmers to adapt to the new hydrological regimes, including term, salty, flooding has affected productivity and rice cultivation.
Trang Tung head of Agriculture Department of agriculture in Tra Vinh province said "we welcomed the presence of Prof Lang HATRI has come and always support for Tra Vinh province; We promise to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of experiments prof Lang and the subject on the TRA Vinh. It is also improving the livelihoods of farmers and increase the food and economic security of farmers in the province ".
