On October 21, the High Agricultural Technology Research Institute for Mekong Delta (HATRI) held a workshop to evaluate and demonstrate a high-yield, high-quality glutinous rice variety adapted to climate change for domestic production and export in Phu Thanh commune (Phu Tan district).
At the workshop, HATRI briefly introduced 11 glutinous rice varieties currently being grown on Mr. Vo Van Dam’s 1,000m² field to assess and select the most outstanding varieties. After field observation, evaluation, and feedback from farmers, the most highly favored climate-adapted glutinous rice varieties were HATRI 19 (ranked 1st), HATRI 11 (ranked 2nd), and HATRI 01 (ranked 3rd).
HATRI's varieties were highly appreciated by local leaders, officials, and farmers due to their high yield, resilience to adverse weather, pest resistance, and good quality. The successful demonstration and evaluation of HATRI's glutinous rice varieties provide a foundation for selecting suitable varieties for farmers in Phu Tan district in particular and the Mekong Delta in general, contributing to the implementation of the 1 million hectares of high-quality rice initiative.
