TRAINING SESSION "APPLICATION OF MECHANIZATION IN RICE PRODUCTION AND INTRODUCTION OF SOME HATRI'S RICE VARIETIES IN 2024"

On the morning of July 2, 2024, the High AgriculturalTechnology Research Institute for Mekong Delta (HATRI), in collaboration with the Châu Phú District Agricultural Extension Station, organized a training session for farmers on the "Application of mechanization in rice production and introduction of some HATRI's rice varieties in 2024". This training is part of the project "Building and developing raw material areas for the project of building and developing the An Giang rice brand in Châu Phú district, An Giang province" led by Dr. Nguyễn Trọng Phước.
HATRI was honored to have the participation of representatives from various local departments and agencies, including the An Giang Department of Science and Technology, the Châu Phú District Agriculture and Rural Development Office, the Châu Phú District Plant Protection Station, the Châu Phú District Agricultural Extension Station, the Director of Bình Đức Agricultural Cooperative, agricultural extension officers from Thạnh Mỹ Tây and Đào Hữu Cảnh communes, the Châu Phú District Farmers' Union, and more than 20 experienced rice farmers.

Rice is a cooperative partnership that encompasses all components of the rice sector and aims to provide impact for a sustainable future. Rice research and development focus on reducing poverty, improving human health and nutrition, promoting gender equality, and enhancing the sustainability of ecosystems in rice production systems. Rice also facilitates the transformation of rice farmers into modern enterprises by leveraging opportunities provided by market diversification and the emergence of stronger consumer demand for quality and nutritious rice products.
The HATRI 10 rice variety was bred by Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Lang and Prof. Dr. Bùi Chí Bửu from HATRI. This variety meets the criteria and needs of the local area, is suitable for export to the European market, and adapts well to the cultivation conditions in An Giang's raw material areas. Therefore, HATRI 10 was selected as the key variety for the 100-hectare model.
The Bình Đức Agricultural Cooperative, located in Bình Phú commune, Châu Phú district, An Giang province, was chosen as the training location. The project was implemented in the experimental fields of Bình Đức with a 100-hectare model.

Dr. Nguyễn Trọng Phước, the project leader, delivered the opening speech and outlined the specific objectives. He also shared knowledge about the rice varieties at HATRI. The specific objectives include:
Organizing training for farmers on applying mechanization techniques in rice production, high-quality seed processing, introducing advanced rice production models on an industrial scale as part of the project.
Training technical cultivation processes for staff and farmers.

The 100-hectare model project for developing raw material rice areas in An Giang, with HATRI 10 as the main variety, received much praise and appreciation from experts, guests, local leaders, and farmers.
Continuing the training program, Mr. Lê Minh Khang introduced and presented the characteristics of rice varieties, growth duration, amylose content, and other criteria of the rice varieties. Among them, HATRI 10 was the most favored and selected variety grown at the 100-hectare experimental site in Bình Đức commune.

Following by Mr. Hồ Đăng Long, Head of the Châu Phú District Agricultural Extension Station, gave a presentation on the application of mechanization in rice production with the goals of:
Minimizing seed and seedling quantities, ensuring density, maintaining the season, and increasing productivity.
Bringing economic efficiency in production.
Reducing field losses and increasing production cycles.
The application of mechanization in production creates favorable conditions for enterprises to invest in developing agro-processing industries linked with the development of mechanized raw material production areas, according to market demand and consumption capacity. It promotes the application of scientific and technological advancements, environmentally friendly high-tech, and modern quality management systems in the preservation and processing of agricultural products.
