Scientific Workshop on Evaluating Rice Varieties for Climate Change Adaptation in the Mekong Delta
Research program on rice by the High Agricultural Technology Research Institute for Mekong Delta, Summer-Autumn Crop 2024
On the morning of June 18, 2024, the workshop on evaluating rice varieties for the Summer-Autumn Crop 2024 was organized by the High Agriculture Technology Research Institute for Mekong Delta (HATRI) at the experimental site in Thới An Đông - Bình Thủy - Cần Thơ with more than 75 rice varieties and 20 glutinous rice varieties. The primarily short-term rice varieties, which have relatively high yield and meet quality standards, were tested for their resistance to pests, drought, salinity, and submergence.
In this workshop, the High Agriculture Technology Research Institute for Mekong Delta (HATRI) was honored to have the participation of representatives including: Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, An Giang Department of Science and Technology, Cần Thơ Plant Protection and Cultivation Sub-Department, Vĩnh Long Seed Center, An Giang Agricultural Promotion Center, Châu Phú District Agricultural Promotion Station, Cần Thơ Union of Science and Technology Associations, Bình Đức Agricultural Cooperative, companies, media units, and more than 40 farmers from Bình Thủy District.

The workshop began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Lang, who introduced the displayed rice varieties adapted to climate change at the Institute's experimental site. The breeding process involves combining multiple desired genetic traits to create varieties that are high-yielding, high-quality, resistant to pests, and suitable for the natural conditions of each region.
