EXPERTS FROM IPB UNIVERSITY, BOGOR, INDONESIA VISIT THE HIGH AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR MEKONG DELTA EXCHANGE AND COOPERATION IN RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
On July 11, 2024, experts from the Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University, Bogor, Indonesia, visited the High Agricultural Technology Research Institute for Mekong Delta (HATRI) under a research and education cooperation program between HATRI and the Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University, Bogor, Indonesia.

Aiming to open up cooperation opportunities between HATRI and the Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University, the experts had a meeting to discuss issues related to rice breeding and production at HATRI. They shared experiences and discussed regarding new methods in biotechnology applied to rice breeding to accelerate the breeding process and improve the quality of rice varieties that adapt to adverse conditions, especially in the increasingly complex context of climate change. HATRI also introduced many climate change-resilient rice varieties that the HATRI has crossbred to the Indonesian experts. The experts highly appreciated the collection of rice varieties selected by the HATRI.

In addition, the experts visited the rice milling plant of Bao Dai Rice Milling Company in Binh Hoa Hamlet, Lac Tan Village, Tan Tru District, Long An Province. Here, the experts highly valued the automation and advanced technologies applied in the rice milling and packaging process. The experts then visited the rice farming model of Binh Duc Agricultural Cooperative in Chau Phu District, An Giang Province. They were introduced to rice production activities applying mechanization and automation in all stages of production from sowing to harvesting. On the same day, the experts also visited Hung Viet Rice Company in Son Thanh Hamlet, Vong Dong Village, Thoai Son District, An Giang Province to tour the rice production and packaging factory. After the visit, the experts highly appreciated the application of technology in rice production by Vietnamese enterprises and expressed a desire for future cooperation in rice production.

At the end of the visit, the High Agricultural Technology Research Institute for Mekong Delta and the Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University, signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two parties. The content of the memorandum includes cooperation in academic exchange, training, and research, opening up many new opportunities for the development of both sides in the future.
