The Institute for High Agricultural Technology Research (HATRI) has made efforts to create a new book for " DEVELOPMENT OF SWEET POTATO PLANTS IN THE MEKONG DELTA. Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas Lam.) is a tuberous crop, belonging to the family Of Convolvulaceae, native to Central America and South America, spreading worldwide with the characteristic of easy-to-grow plants, yielding efficiency per unit of very large land area compared to other species. The ability to provide energy is very effective, besides protein nutrition is very positive, and the powdered sugar content / ha, with a short planting time, so it is the strategic crop of the world. According to FAO data in 2017, China produces the largest sweet potato with 72 million tons, followed by African countries, such as Malawi (5.5 million tons), Tanzania (4.2 t...) Vinh Long (VietNam have 14 thousands ha) with 30ton/ha.
The varieties of potatoes selected as materials are kept at the Mekong Delta High-Tech Agricultural Research Institute (HATRI) gene bank. By selecting sweet potato varieties, the topic has selected 34 promising sweet potatoes that can be used as a good starting material, exhibiting many outstanding properties with high productivity, delicious potato qualities for mekong delta provinces.
